Farewell!

Thursday, June 24, 2021

Wow!  Can’t believe it’s been just over a year since my last post.  We continued on to Texas, enjoying several stops along the way.

Houston Ship Channel – almost home

We stay at Waterford Harbor Marina long enough to catch up on a years’ worth of doctor/dentist appointments and visit a few friends.  Our tenants are still in our house, so mid-August we decide to cruise south to Port Aransas for some fishing and catching up with local friends.

Houston Ship Channel, heading home

By Thanksgiving we are back at Watergate Marina near our home.  We expect our tenants to be gone by the end of the year and are eager to get back to our home and dock.  We have planned maintenance and some remodeling before moving back in and are starting to line up contractors, not an easy task these days.

Home at last!

Work on the house is proceeding at a glacial pace.  Then the February cold snap hits!  Two nights of 18 degrees, followed three nights later by 27 degrees.  Power is out for 2 full days (thank heaven for our generator on the boat)!

Snow! Cold! Brrr!

April 29, 2021

After months of slow progress on interior and exterior work on our house, we are FINALLY moving back in!  Our furnishings are delivered from storage and we can begin to settle in.

Our plan has been to get moved in, then get the boat ready to be listed for sale.  She has been ours for the past 10 years and our full-time home for almost 5 years but she is the wrong boat for where we live.  We both agree it is time to do something different, so we are ready to sell.

Meanwhile cruising friends Bill & Shelley, who own a boat like ours (a Selene 53), are docked in St. Augustine FL for a short stay.  By chance, they meet Greg & Glenda passing through on their sailboat, who stop to ask about the Selene.  It is their dream boat and they are in the market for one as soon as they sell their sailboat.  Bill & Shelley tell them about our boat and that it will soon be for sale.  Contact information is exchanged and about a week before we move back into our home, we get a call from Greg wanting more information about our boat.  They soon decide they want to come from Virginia to see her.  We had a frantic 10 days, moving 10 years’ worth of stuff off Sauvy B and deep cleaning in preparation for showing her.  Mind you, our house is still full of boxes from our recent move from storage and the yard is a disaster from 5 years of tenant neglect and the recent freeze.

Long story short, they have bought our boat!  On Thursday, June 24, we waved farewell as they departed our dock, heading directly across the Gulf to Florida, then home to Virginia.  Crew Barry & Robin, pictured with the 4 of us, will help them get the boat home.  Coincidentally, we met Barry several years ago while in the Chesapeake; he also owns a Selene.

We have passed along our boat that served us so well and made new friends in the process!  I feel certain our paths will cross again.
